Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affects people who have underwent serious trauma and this is a very serious condition that requires immediate attention. The symptoms may appear immediately after the trauma or even after so many months later. Some people might feel that after few months, the symptoms are gradually disappearing, but most have prolonged PTSD that is known as long-term PTSD. Yoga is the most effective method to reduce physical and mental stress, PTSD, and even hallmark symptoms. The yoga exercises such as meditation, breathing, relaxation, and stretching helps a person to relax their body as well as mind. Yoga is mostly helpful for soldiers and help them deal with the memories of traumatic events. Yoga help soldiers deal with the stress and depression from the war, and most importantly help them to overcome the condition.

Yoga is very effective because the poses are very similar to many therapies and soldiers can practice this whenever they experience stressful emotions. Yoga emphasis more of mind-body connection and this is very beneficial for soldiers.

Yoga is one such method that is proven to regulate the nervous system and normalize the entire body. The benefits of yoga have attracted many army professionals and today this is used as one of the treatments for soldiers as this is the gentle and safe treatment available. Not only PTSD, yoga can be used to treat other mental health problems.

The human body is amazing and can do many incredible things. It can also be fragile and injured in unseen ways. Traumatic events or stressful living conditions can severely damage a person’s mental capacities and their responses to the world around them.  Physical and mental illnesses can form in people who are continually placed under stress. Mental illnesses are a terrible thing, and can completely debilitate a person.  Called “shell shock” during World War I and later called “combat exhaustion” during the Second World War, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a disease which can develop in a person exposed to psychologically harsh situations. It’s easy to see how this and other mental illnesses are experienced so often by those exposed to the traumas of war.

There are countless findings published on mental disorders sprouting from combat, but the truly important factor is how a soldier can cope and recover from them. Many people who experience these disturbances try to block out the sorrow or pain they feel with something else, like alcohol, drugs, sex, or self-mutilation.  The pain and pleasure centers of the human nervous system are so powerful they can override everything else in the body, even thoughts.  Because of this, the sudden pleasure of drugs or the pain of cutting can make a person forget, for a short time, the effects of their disorder.

Obviously, there are more healthy and long-lasting ways of dealing with and recovering from these. In addition, side effects, like drug reliance or alcoholism may need to be addressed. Psychological counseling is extremely beneficial, especially when combined with prescribed medication. The military has opened an alcohol treatment center to help those who have drinking problems stemming from the stresses soldiers face.  It’s important to remember that addiction is usually a coping mechanism for something bigger, but that there is help out there.

The war in Iraq has wreaked havoc on our country and, in truth, all over the world. People everywhere have suffered the stress and worry of this war. It is important for your mental health to do things to take your mind off the war, the casualties and the overall stress. Without your mental health, your physical health will suffer, too. Taking time for yourself and doing things for yourself is a great way to relieve stress. Even though you may not be accustomed to putting yourself first, for your health, you have to do it, even if it is only in the smallest of ways.

One way you can do something small for yourself is by purchasing new clothes. It may sound silly, but new clothes have a way of making a person feel good. You do not have to spend a fortune on a new wardrobe. Just make the effort once or twice a month to go on a shopping trip. You can even take advantage of the Internet for your shopping needs. Lots of websites have name brand clothing such as True Religion that you can buy for below-retail prices. If clothes are not your thing, buy yourself some small accessories or shoes. Just make the effort to buy a few things just for you every month. You might be surprised by how good your new purchases make you feel.

When it comes to making time for yourself, you do not have to spend a lot of money to have fun. Do things like taking the day off and going for a hike. Have a picnic with family and friends. Rent your favorite movies and spend an evening at home enjoying your favorite films. The point of making time for yourself is to forget about the stress and worry, relax, and have fun for a change.

Soldiers aren’t the only ones who can be deeply unsettled and disturbed by war. Countless others can find themselves in the depths of depression from conflict, as well. Melancholy and depression are terribly debilitating diseases that can stagnate someone’s personal growth and take years to cope with and overcome. Sometimes even holding down a good-paying job can become too stressful, and pay day loans become the only solace for the person. Often, personal relationships suffer as a person becomes unnerved and apathetic. Treatment must be pursued as quickly as possible to ensure that the diseases do not become exacerbated.

The best way for soldiers, and others, too, to deal with depression and other mental illnesses is to be diagnosed by both a medical professional and also to participate in therapy or counseling sessions. Through both of these channels of treatment, a person stands the best chance of dealing with these troubling ailments. Altering and correcting the body’s chemical makeup with antidepressants and other drugs provides a person with the building blocks to repair their mind and go forward a stronger person. Counseling and being able to express one’s emotions can prove extremely effective, and a psychological professional can help a person to understand what they are facing and how to effectively confront their fears or concerns.

War can bring out the best and most selfless parts of people, but it can also take a terrible toll on the spirit. It is no surprise that military forces and the medical community are both striving to develop more and more effective measures to combat psychological disorders and improve the treatments of them. With each success in this field, more and more individuals are given the chance to return to a normal, functioning life and to feel happiness and experience love once again.
